After Chicago my visit to LA was even shorter. I arrived at night and knew I could only hit one location to get a downtown LA shot. With LA traffic I quickly realized that there was no such thing as a blue hour shot, I sat in the car during the most beautiful sunset and was stuck in heavy traffic all through the blue hour to finally arrive at the planned location to at least get a night shot of LA with the Hollywood Bowl in front. The shot was taken from Hollywood Bowl Overlook on Mulholland Drive. Quite a scenic place to take pictures of LA.
The next I had a business appointment in Chino well east of the city that lasted well into the afternoon and a flight back home in the early evening. On the way to the airport I realized I would be driving by Walt Disney Concert Hall so I had to quickly stop and take a few shots there. What a beautiful building. The timing and the sky was however by no means ideal, but as I have mentioned before … travel photography is quite often about making the best of the short time at a location. You can’t wait for the right conditions to arrive. As an additional challenge I had to fend of a security guard who didn’t want me to take photos of the concert hall with my tripod even though I was across the street for most of the shots … but not for all 😉
